Park Days: A guide for park rats

“Down for a cheeky park lap?” - Is a common phrase among Bow valley athletes. When the snow isn’t good, when the sun is shining and even when we just want to work on some cool new trick we head to the park for a few laps.

We live for those oh so epic pow days and the big mountain style, however there is something great in hitting park all day with your crew. We have that rhythm of “park lap, beer lap” and oh man, is it fun or what! It’s especially hard to beat those slushy spring days, when the sun is in full blast and we’re working harder on that goggle tan than anything else.

I think there is a sense of comradeship in hyping up your friends to try something new along with the immense support we give each other in the Bow Valley. Yeah we fall down and maybe don’t land the trick, but the amount of people backing you up, telling you try again, is incredible, giving it such a good sense of inclusivity.

We live here for the mountains. We partake in snow sports and lean into the lifestyle so much that it becomes a part of who we are. Riding park with the homies is just a reflection of what we love.

This photo was taken on a sunny day during the early season, when midday is still warm. Snow lovers are still anticipating the big pow days, but not without smashing some park laps. I went to the upper angel park at Sunshine Village Ski Resort to photograph some friends of mine, who have mad skill, only to find that there was some major talent at Sunshine Village that day! Tricks were getting thrown down left, right and center on several features. The stoke was real on this sunny afternoon and the good vibes were flowing.
