About the Photographer

My name is Sarah-JO, but my friends call me SJ! I am a Banff local, originally from Winnipeg MB.

I moved out West in early 2014. I had spent the year prior travelling around Europe and Mexico. I found that after travelling I was left restless and keen on the adventurer’s lifestyle, so I made the move to Banff. I fell into a fun rhythm of snowboarding and working in this small mountain town, only to become infatuated with the lifestyle which kept me here for the long run.

Over the years I became more and more interested in photography. It became less of a hobby and more of a passion and life choice for me. I found that capturing the Rockies in their natural glory as well as snowboarder/ skiers in a wicked action shot, was not only enjoyable but also rewarding on many levels. From that point on I decided that I wanted a career in photography, so I moved back to Winnipeg for 8 months to enroll in classes at Prairie View School of Photography. After completing my classes and several workshops I moved back to Banff as a permanent resident. I have now been practicing photography professionally for 5 years in the Bow Valley.

Living out here has opened many doors for me and given me a series of opportunities. I take pride in sharing the beautiful places I visit, as well as the amazing people on the journey. A photo truly does speak a thousand words, I just hope everyone has the chance to see the Rocky Mountains as I do. My career as a photographer in Banff has been quite the journey and I am excited for many more years of adventuring through Canada’s snowy peaks.
